There’s always action here

Father and son look over balcony

South Tyrol has it all – and family excursions are no exception. Children become knights and damsels, natural scientists and astronomers. Look forward to a colourful all-weather programme!

A city tour around the corner

Church tower and houses all around

You don’t always have to hike and enjoy nature, sometimes you are simply drawn to the city. There are three in our vicinity: the bishop’s town of Brixen, the medieval town of Bruneck and the Fugger town of Sterzing. Children will find something to do everywhere – while mum goes shopping, dad takes them to playgrounds, forest adventure parks and climbing rocks. It is also worth visiting the three towns on market day: there’s so much to marvel at and taste!

Off to Rodenegg Castle

Rodenegg Castle in the snow

The mighty Rodenegg Castle towers high above the Rienz gorge, on the opposite side of the valley from Meransen. Little knights and damsels are drawn here, especially to the guided tours, which are offered on Mondays (June to November) at 3 p.m. for children aged 5 and over. The impressive castle is about 13km from the Family Home Alpenhof.

At the “Mühlbacher Klause”

Mühlbacher Klause Fortress by the Road

In the Middle Ages, the “Mühlbacher Klause” served as a dam, a fortress and a customs station at the entrance to the Pustertal valley. Today, the historic ruin can be visited on a guided tour and serves as a venue for various events, such as open-air theatre performances. It is about 10km from the Alpenhof.

A visit to the loden museum in Vintl

Grazing flock of sheep

Do you know how a coat is made from sheep wool? If not, plan a stopover at the Loden World in Vintl (15km from Meransen). The cuddly animals in the open-air enclosure of the Loden World will certainly enjoy your visit. Visitors to the museum will learn all the individual steps it takes before you can slip into a warm coat.

To the earth pyramids in Terenten

Earth pyramids between trees

An impressive natural spectacle awaits you in the Pustertal valley: the earth pyramids in Terenten. They are located 20km from the Alpenhof. The starting point for the approximately 90 min. hike (not suitable for prams) is the main car park in Terenten. The path to the earth pyramids is well signposted.
